Registrations – Is there a charge?
No, there is no charge to register a birth/death or marriage event. All births and deaths MUST be registered by attending an office. Only marriage registrations can be done by registered post and it is recommended that you keep note of your track and trace information.
How soon after a marriage can I order an official marriage certificate online?
Only after a marriage has been officially registered, can you then apply online for an Irish Marriage Certificate. These are now printed in A4 format on special security paper. If you require a change / update to the original information that was registered, this can only be done in the district where the original registration took place so please contact the relevant office in that district and they will advise on the procedures.
How far back do marriage records extend?
Catholic marriage records commence from 1864 to date and non-catholic marriages records commenced in 1845. In order to successfully complete any search it is incumbent on you to ensure that the information you submit is as up-to-date and accurate as possible.
Can I access marriage certificates registered in the six counties of Northern Ireland?
Yes, we can access events registered within the six counties of Northern Ireland (Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Londonderry (aka Derry) and Tyrone), however it will take slightly longer to do so.
What if I was married more than once?
For women who have been married more than once, it is imperative that you provide both your maiden name and your previous married name and advise us in the “Additional Information” section of any such information.
