Birth Certificate with Apostille Stamp ….. Please note:

For authentication purposes in Ireland or for Irish Embassies worldwide, an Apostille Stamp is NOT required for documents issued in Ireland (i.e. if you have an Irish issued Long Form / Civil Certificate and are applying for Irish citizenship through an Irish Embassy – an Apostille Stamp is NOT required on this document). If you are still unsure whether an Apostille Stamp is required for whatever purpose you need it, please check with the authorities in the relevant country before ordering a Birth Certificate with Apostille Stamp.

Registrations – Is there a charge?

No, there is no charge to register a birth/death or marriage event. All births and deaths MUST be registered by attending an office. Only marriage registrations can be done by registered post and it is recommended that you keep note of your track and trace information.

How far back do birth records extend?

Registered births in Ireland can be requested from 1864 to date. In order to successfully complete any search it is incumbent on you to ensure that the information you submit is as up-to-date and accurate as possible.

Can I access certs registered in the six counties of Northern Ireland?

Yes, we can access events registered within the six counties of Northern Ireland (Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Londonderry (aka Derry) and Tyrone), however it will take slightly longer to do so.

To obtain a passport which type of birth certificate is required?

To obtain a passport you will require a Long Form Birth Cert. These are now printed in A4 format on special security paper. If you require a change / update to the original information that was registered, this can only be done in the district where the original registration took place so please contact the relevant office in that district and they will advise on the procedures.

How soon after a birth can I order an official birth certificate online?

These can be ordered securely online as soon as the birth has been registered at the local Births Deaths Marriages office. The birth of a child should be registered no later than three months after the birth. The hospital do not officially register the birth. It is the sole responsibility of the parents or guardians.

As a new parent what do I need to register a birth at the Births Deaths Marriage office?

As a married couple, one or both parents may attend and must bring in the following; Marriage Certificate, Photo ID and PPS Numbers for both parents. If a couple are not married and the father’s name is to be included on the certificate, both parents must attend to officially register the birth, bringing with them photo ID and their PPS Numbers.

In the event of a stillborn birth can I request a birth certificate online?

Births Deaths Marriages are unable to accept applications for stillborn children. These are classed as sealed records due to their sensitive nature. The registrar can provide a certificate of stillbirth at the time of registration only to the parent signing the stillbirths register. Afterwards, the mother or father of the stillborn child can get a certified copy of the entry in the register at the Office of the Registrar-General.

How and where can I register my stillborn child?

In order to register the stillbirth, a “Birth Notification Form” will usually be completed by the hospital staff along with the parents. In the case of a home-birth, a midwife or doctor will do this.

What documentation is required to register a stillborn birth?

In order for the stillbirth to be registered the medical practitioner who attended the stillbirth, or examined the baby must give you a certificate stating the baby’s weight and gestational age and the name and address of where the stillbirth took place.

If the stillbirth took place prior to 1st January 1995 specific evidence must be produced to prove that a stillbirth took place. This evidence can take the form of an authoritative statement in writing from the hospital, nursing home or midwife, again stating the date and place the stillbirth occurred as well as the weight or gestational age of the baby.
